Red face Proftpd

Hi All,

So this is my first post, and it's with a quite serious problem, For me in anycase...

I have a Fedora Core 4 installation that runs a couple of servers:

* Mail
* Apache
* MySQL
* ProFTPd
* Samba

I need ftp access on the machine so that the boss can upload stuff for our intranet. For that I have installed ProFTPd with MySQL backend for user authentication and so forth.

I have managed to get it up and running OK, with not too much effort. Now the actual problem comes in when trying to connect to the server, being it from the shell VIA ftp/telnet or from a remote workstation, I cannot seem to get connected.

I have posted this problem with a lot more details on the proftpd forum, but it doesn't seem as if there is any life or if anybody is interested in helping me. Linky to the other post with all the details.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is quite an urgent problem.

Blessings!

Have you opened the FTP ports in the firewall? What is the output of the entry when you try to connect? A simpler and more secure solution would be to use WinSCP over ssh to do the file transfers. That way, ftp ports are closed and they still have to authenticate to gain access.

Hi wdgiles,

Yes all the ports have been opened. It is all done.

I am however looking into the WinSCP that you spoke of, but am sceptic about anything that might give the boss access to anything Im not FORCING him to be in...he can get nosy at times you know

Blessings!
