Setting up basic email server

Hi,

I am setting up a new business and have no Linux admin yet. I have used Fedora for a couple of months and have basic knowledge of it. I reserved a domain name hosted by godaddy.com and am able to send emails from my Fedora server using Pine. However, when I send my email messages to a Yahoo! account, they arrive and get put in the Trash box. I've heard that it has something to do with email relaying.

I am looking for help with the following:

1. Change configuration to make sure that my email messages don't get put in Trash of the recepient's side. I believe I am using sendmail to send email messages from the server, but how do I confirm this?
2. Configuring my Fedora server so that I can use my Outlook client to retrieve emails from it.

I would really appreciate some help or at least some links to existing information on how to set up a primitive email server on Fedora. Maybe Fedora comes with some system tools that could help me do that?

Thanks.

Alec

To check what mailer your system is using, I think you can use 'ls -l /etc/alternatives/mta'. /etc/alternatives/mta is a symlink to the mailer your system is using.

To avoid having email from your server being tagged as junk, you might want to have it relayed out through your ISP's SMTP server. If you are using sendmail, you do that using the SMART_HOST feature.

To be able to retrieve email from your server, you need a POP or IMAP service running. Dovecot can do both. (yum info dovecot). I personally am a great fan of IMAP. http://www.imap.org/imap.vs.pop.brief.html
