removing wifi0 from boot

I finally got my wireless working correctly after compiling madwifi drivers. Network Manager works as it should be. However, when I boot the machine, ath0 and wifi0 can't get an IP. This means that my bootup takes a long time. Is there anyway that I can remove wifi0 from the bootup? I don't know what I'd use it for. I would like it to try and connect to my home AP at startup but it seems that it needs Network Manager for that. The reason I'd like ath0 to startup at boot is because I'd like ntpd to get the correct time at boot time. Or does ntpd run after NetworkManager connects to an AP? Thanks!
