Unhappy Acer Ferrari 5000

Hi

I just bought an Acer Ferrari 5000 now earlyer i owned the 3000 model and had fedora core 5 dual booting with windows. i experenced no touble with my AIT hardware.
How ever i installed Core 6 on this lap top
I cant find working drivers for moble AIT X1600
or dirvers for my sound card witch would be part of the ATI XPress 1150 hardware im asuming.
I Do get sound once after rebooting a few times but most of the time it says my sound card is being blocked.
When it does work how ever the lap top speekers wont shut off when normal speekers are plugged into the audio jack.

If there is any one else who happenes to own one these lap tops please help me
Im a total linux noob lol

http://www.phoronix.com/redblog/?p=blog&i=NTU1MA

I read this artical on how to install these new drivers hassle free. Now being a linux noob.
I has this.sh file(fglrx-fc6-8296-generator.sh) and with that some how i turn this .run(ati-driver-installer-8.29.6) file i downloaded into a rpm file to install.

But i dont knw to run a .sh file :P
im burtaly lost here. So rather then buy a book im gonna ask if any one can help me out.
Maybe explain this more step by step for a noob like my self.

Hi

As for the sound, I presume you're using KDE. KDE is really annoying when you're trying to play two audio sources at the same time, for example amarok and a flash site. It will only play one at the time, I don't know why. I don't have this problem in Gnome though. As for the speaker, go to KMix (the speaker icon by the tray clock) and look for an option called "Headphone jack sense". Just enable it and it will mute the laptop speakers when you plug something to the headphone jack.

As for the ATI drivers, I suggest you avoid the solution above and try the one described in this forum:

you type in a console:
Code:
./nameoffile.sh
As for the sound, hmmm, I'm not so sure now. Without external speakers/headphones you still have no sound?

Ok in the way of sound i had gotten some sound when i rolled back my sound drivers. But the audio jack didnt switch between my desk top and lap top speekers. How ever right after reboot i was bck to no sound. So this proved to be a temporary sulution.

ok, go to menu "system > preferences >sound"

Then in the Devices tab change everything to ALSA

As for the speakers, double click the speaker icon by the clock; then menu "edit > preferences"; enable Headphone Jack Sense" press ok and then go to the tab interrupts or something like that and check the Headphone Jack sense option.
