nVidia Dual Display problems

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone here had experience using the NVIDIA display settings. Basically I have a XFX GeForce 6600GT,128meg, with twin dvi output (unfortunatly i don;t have 2 lcd display just CRTs). I have connected them to the card and managed to get dual display working with the following xorg.conf file

Code:
# nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings
# nvidia-settings: version 1.0 (buildmeister@builder26) Wed Nov 1 19:48:35 PST 2006

Can anyone explain the metamodes to me?? I've had a look at :nVidia MetaModes but don't really understand

What i have working is 2 displays, the right one has the menu bar and window bar, on the left screen I have all the desktop icons. Also I can't enable "desktop effects" is this becuase i'm configuring the montiors to 1600x1200 and my card doesn't have enough memoery/power to do the desktop effects.

Thanks
Satpal

Hello:
Sorry, I can't explain meta modes better than nvida.
You should be able to enable compiz and desktop effects without problems.
To do so you will have to amend your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file
Have a look here for the basic instructions: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=77030

And make sure you have the latest drivers installed.
