Where to set X default Keymap

Hello all together.

I want to test the X Server autoconfiguration mechanism but with a german keboard map. When starting the Xserver with no /etc/X11/xorg.conf the autodedection works fine, but I get a US Keyborad Map. What is the preferred way to change this?

Kind regards, TheEarl
