Question LAN (Fedora 6 SAMBA) performace bad -- NAUTILUS PROBLEM

Hey ... here's my network:
4 Computers: Fedora 6, 2 XP home SP2 and 1 XP Pro SP2
all have 10/100 onboard ethernet, except one of the XP home SP2 has 10/100/1000
router: Linksys wireless and 4 wired - 10/100

Ok network performance from my computer Fedora 6 (samba) to and from others is terrible and is limited to 1.7MB/s (transfer a file from samba to/from XP computer)
HOWEVER, say to and from the 2 Win XP home computers its about 10MB/s (that is ... transftering a file to/from one XP to another XP system)
(theoretical limit of 12.5MB/s or so -- 100/8)

so what's going on? is there some SAMBA setting i need to correct, or something else like a kernel bug (possible i suppose)

More likely something incorrect in your network. Do a traceroute to see whether everything's fine (tracert on the windoze boxes, from the DOS prompt). You may also try and see whether adding
Code:
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192
to your /etc/samba/smb.conf makes any difference (unlikely)

OK,
I've narrowed down and found out the real problem:
Nautilus
my network performance is actually pretty decent for 100Mb/s
here's what happens
using a Win XP SP2 computer transfer 300MB worth of files and folders (to or from) my SAMBA and I'll get about 10MB/s and 5-10% CPU usage on Fedora system
HOWEVER,
if I use nautilus in Fedora 6 to copy the 300MB (to or from) the XP SP2 computer I'll only get 1.7MB/s and 100% CPU usage on Fedora system
... of to bugzilla i suppose??

So my Network is fine, samba is fine, but nautilus is not ok and has a bug

... To get my network goin real good with 1000Mb/s is impossible, my Fedora sys is a laptop so i can't upgrade the network card. Then again I'd like to build myself a nice new desktop but lack the funds. Plus getting 4x Cat5e or Cat6 and a 1000Mb/s switch ... it's not really worth it since its just a home network, but if had the money, i would.
