I'm sure that all my fellow slashdot readers are already aware, but for those who haven't heard.

Microsoft will make an upfront payment to Novell of $240 million for SLES subscription 'certificates' that Microsoft can use, resell, or distribute over the term of the agreement. Regarding the patent cooperation agreement, Microsoft will make an up-front net payment to Novell of $108 million, and Novell will make ongoing payments totaling at least $40 million over five years to Microsoft."

And here are 2 other articles that I found worth reading.

MS Patent Applications Reveal Search Technology

The first link is Microsoft's alternative to Google Earth.
And the second details Microsoft's recent activity on the search engine front.

/me reaches out and slaps Novell+Microsoft with an oversized Windows-compliant trout.

You see what happens when people stop taking their medication?

Interesting that Novell is paying back approx $40mil over 5 years. Why not just deduct that from the $588mil that MS is paying to Novell.

Desperate people take desperate mesures. Desperacy has obviously robbed Novell/SuSe of its vision. What other explanatio is there?

What a sellout. I find it weird that people are saying all over the net about how GNU/Linux has won the battle. Microsoft's "endorsement" seems to be kiss of death to me.

Well at least it's not just the end users who feel a little betrayed, it seems that the Samba team is urging Novell to reconsider.
