Thanks.

I try 'yum install bmp bmp-mp3' and it completes.

But when I try to play a mp3 file, I get this error:
The following files could not be played. Please check that:
1. they are accessible.
2. you have enabled the media plugins required.

Can you please help.

Thank you.

Also try yum -y install gstreamer-plugins-ugly that might have your mp3 codec for you.

I just went to freshrpms and downloaded both the mp3 and wma files via firefox then installed then with instal manager ignoring the warning no problem at all did the same for xine although that took a few more files to get going. I prefer this as I now have a back up of these should the worst happen.

I wouldn't recommend doing it that way because packages have other packages that depend on them. If you want to install something from freshrpms it is recommended that you install the repository. To install the repository use the following code

Code:
rpm -i http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrpms/fedora/linux/6/freshrpms-release/freshrpms-release-1.1-1.fc.noarch.rpm

Yes I agree and would not suggest that for major software but it saves a lot of hassle when I have the rpms on disc and besides with the mirror problems I was having this way took seconds for xmms plugins. The question I thought was specific to xmms and I see from above that there was problems. I only suggest this as an alternative which I know worked for me yesterday.
