where did my keyboard shortcut go?
ok ever since i started using linux which was quite a while ago I always have set <ctrl>+g to open a terminal. it is now habit and i constantly press <ctrl>+g to open a terminal. however in FC6 nothing happens. the first thing i did after the install was go to menu->system->preferences->keyboard shortcuts and changed the value of run terminal to <ctrl>+g. however last week it stopped working, and run in terminal is not an option in keyboard shortcuts anymore. where did it go? how can i get it back? does anyone know where gnome hides the config files for these shortcuts so i can change it manually?
thanks

Hit the configuration editor and look under compiz and see if something else has been given that keystroke assignment? Maybe?
Most gnome configs are in .gconf

yeah ive been searching so far nothing yet. what does happen though is when desktop effects are turned on the run terminal choice goes away and it is replaced by hide all windows and focus desktop. i think maybe b/c its the last choice it got bumped? as the number of shortcuts may be preset? can anyone verify this and is it happening to anyone else?
edit : the hide all windows is actually in there twice once under desktop, once under window management
a bunch of shortcut options under windows management changed, and this makes sense. however i dont see why the a change in the windows manager would effect me being able to launch a terminal.

ok i solved it.
in case anyone needs this functionality which i imagine someone does. here is what i did
open gconf-editor(or manually edit) i suggest the editor
go to apps->compiz_>general->allscreens->options
change command_1 to gnome-terminal(xterm, eterm, whatever your term emmulator of choice is)
then change run_command_1_key to <Control>g (or whatever you want)
then it works yeah
p.s. this will work for whatever program you want. the command is just run from a command line. So i guess this is the procedure to set keyboard shortcuts in gnome.(the same concept seems to work for metacity or any other wm)

Yeah. It's happening here too. Set it up as you did, and it's gone in desktop effects.

yeah although it does have a fairly easy fix(see above). do you think this qualifies as a bug. b/c it puts the "hide all windows and focus desktop" option in keyboard shortcuts twice. i can't imagine this was done on purpose. although it is not really a flaw in the program. I just can't decide if this is a bug or an intended consequence. just wondering if it's worth reporting to bugzilla. as it is not in there right now.

I would. They ain't gonna know otherwise. And it's not like a terminal is a rare thing to use in Fedora.

all your keyboard command are listed in->system->preferences->keyboard shortcuts, im not on fc right now (edgy yuck) so i dont know the default, but you can set vurtually any command in gconf editor by going to apps->your windows manager->and setting a command
