FC6 install failling very early

nforce2 chipset
radeon 9800pro
promise SATA300 TX4
nothing else that should matter...

Computer has been running FC3 then FC4 then FC5 for quite some time flawlessly.

FC6 install fails to a blinking cursor right after initrd finishes loading.

Tried text mode, acpi=off, noapic, etc...

Install off the same DVD works on another computer.

I have been using linux since RH 5.1 (and have the store bought box set to prove it so normally I can get around just about any problem, but this isn't even getting me far enough to get to a place to start poking at it.

Any guidence would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Ok, found the problem....

PROMISE SATA300 TX4 = INSTANT DEATH

I removed the card, and now the install works (however, I have no hard drives now).

I guess it's time to find out how bad the nvraid drivers suck these days.

I knew I should have spent the extra money and gotten either an LSI or 3ware card...

Do you have any Windoze-partitions on that RAID array or on other disks? Check this topic: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showth...2&page=1&pp=15
On page 3 the solutions turns out to be removing your Windows partitions (e.g. by disconnecting drives with NTFS partitions on it).

I'm facing the issue too. There seems to be absolutely NO WAY to get FC6 installed to either my desktop pc (AMD 64, nVIDIA GeForce 7600) or my laptop. Graphical installer freezes reproducibly after selecting the partitions to mount and the packages to install (means: at the beginning of the actual installation process) Would have been better to spend some more days on eliminating bugs, wouldn't it?.

@ psyrgoh: SOLUTION? To remove Windows partitons? What a great step forward from FC5 to FC6!

Ann

@ annuzzer: the topic I mentioned is about FC5. I have not yet installed FC6 myself, but the description Vuke69 gave made me think about my problems with FC5.

There were no windows partitions.

The drives were previously set up as follows:

2x 74GB Raptors
md0 raid1 ext3 102MB /boot
md1 raid0 remaining space LVM
LV00 2048MB swap
LV01 remaining space ext3 /

2x 320GB
md2 raid0 reiser /mnt/md2

I moved the drives to a sil3114 based controller (in non raid mode), and the install seems to have secceded. We'll see if it survives the first boot when I get home from work today...
