RPMs don't work in FC2

Hey, I'm having problems with my FC2 install. RPMs aren't working. When I try to run a rpm from X it says that no action is associated with the file type, bummer. Anybody know what's wrong and/or know how to help me out?

What do you mean?

Double-clicking a rpm file normally opens a new window with a loading bar saying things like "loading rpm header file" etc.. That's not happening. Instead, it opens a window to inform me that the rpm file format has no action associated with it and if I'd like to assign an action to it.

Ya, I think I tried to associate /bin/rpm (or was it /usr/bin/rpm? can't remember).

Alot of other things don't work under a user as well, but with root I can do alot more things. None of the system-config-* stuff works with my normal user, but with root they work. I'm wondering how (if at all) these problems are related. Methinks selinux might be it.

Hmmm, all of the system config apps for me ask for the root password when I run them. They then run fine. I am running FC2T2 with SElinux disabled however.

How have you disabled SeLinux?

I chose SE linux as being disabled when installing. I was originally going to try it out but my first install attempt failed with that and using ReiserFS. So I reinstalled with SElinux disabled and EXT3 for the filesystem. (I have since found the reiserfs was at fault due to a known bug in the install process)

I have the same problem with opening RPM packages - error message telling me there is nothing associated with the file type. I tried manually installing under terminal (rpm -i command). This has worked only for the APT RPM package (which I was excited about). Now that I have apt, I want to install synaptic and deal with the RPM's that way (my solution). I have tried manually installing synaptic from an RPM in terminal, double-clicking the RPM and installing through "apt-get install synaptic" -- All failed attempts.

Any ideas on how to install synaptic would be extremely helpful to me. (I am, in case you couldn't tell, a novice. Perhaps I hould have chosen a stable final release as my distro, huh.) For the time being, I am interested in getting synaptic and mp3 support for this release. Thanks all.

Until the "bug" is worked out, the good old command line
$rpm -ivh <pkg-name> still works
