xine installation........help req....

hi.......

I have fedora core 5 over my pc n i am new to the linux.

My sound card is fine, as i hear the test sound but i am unable to play any of the music files,rm or mp3 format.Any default player in the core installation is unable to do it.

I read the book and fopund that i need to get the plugin's.I downloaded the xine media player in the bz2 compression file but i am unable to uncompress it and install it.

The file which i have downloaded is "xine-lib-1.1.2.tar.bz2".Any help for this.........

cud the problem be this that i have downloaded the file in windows and then copied it in a cd and then i tried to install it in the linu thr the cd.but it dosen't seems logical since i am able to uncompress the file in linux it's just that i am unable to install the xine mp after that.......

Fedora uses the RPM file format for updates. The normal way to update is the command ' yum update ' at the root logon.
But you need a network connection (ie.. dsl/cable modem) via ethernet. if no network connection is avalable (ie.. transfer via cdrom). You can download the RPM files and install them with the command ' rpm -uvhf rpmfilename '.
