Newbie: Sendmail question

Hi Everyone

I am getting lots of spam that appears to be coming from my servers.

Is there a way to see if the email actually did come from my servers?

I have looked in /var/log/maillog but it does not seem to say? (or I dont know how to look )

I am using Fedora Core 4 with sendmail and UW IMAP.

Thanks

I looked at the /var/log/maillog but I cannot seem to tell which entry says that an email was sent.

Can you tell me how to see?

Check your sendmail macro file and be sure your mail server isn't set up as an open relay. Spammers activly search for mail servers set up this way and exploit them to cover their tracks. Worse case your entire domain will get black listed.

Here is an explanation of the sendmail log format:
http://www.logreport.org/doc/gen/email/sendmail.php

It will list all the mail that comes in or goes out through the server, so if you are being used as a relay, it should be clear in your logs.

You can easily check to see if your server is acting as an open smtp relay by any number of free web tools.
