x crashes when playing avi file with ati x1600

hi anyone out there having problems playing avi files with totem movie player on ati x1300 - x1900.
I have a asus eax1600 , everytime i play a avi it crashes the x server and returns me to a logon screen.
To get around this i have edit xorg.conf with this line ( Option "OpenGLOverlay" "1" ). then i use xine with additional codecs and setup xine to use the openGL video driver.
I run fedora core 5 x64 with the latest ati drivers from livna.org and have no problem playing games like doom. can anyone help me with this problem many thanks leigh
