Starting udev: problem solved!

Hello all, this post is for all you who have had problems with the "Starting udev:" system hang during boot.

I took me about 2 hours to figure this out, but thankfully, deep Google digging pulled up the answer. There are a basic things to do, really quite easy. The solution was originally found at: http://www.linuxsecurity.com/content/view/122195

Step 1) Create a Fedora Rescue disk
Step 2) boot the hardware with the rescue disk
Step 3) cd /mnt/sysimage
Step 4) mv sbin/pcmcia-socket-startup sbin/pcmcia-socket-startup.bak
Step 5) exit (then reboot)

Step 6) download the latest patches which will update the latest pcmciautils package.

My system is a Sony PCG-7R1M or Sony VGN-FE31Z depending which sticker you are looking at.

Details are:
Intel Core Duo T5600
Memory 2 GB/Go DDR2 SDRAM
HDD: 200GB/Go
Screen: 15.4" WXVGA (1280x800)
X-Black LCD with Double Lamp
Optical: DVD RW Dual Layer
Graphics: NVDIA GeForce Go 7600 128 MB RAM
Original OS: Windows Media Center 2005
Bought in Cologne, Germany

If its Fedora you want to rescue you can use the install media

just type linux rescue at the boot prompt

boot: linux rescue

Step 1) boot the hardware with the install disk ( type linux rescue at the boot prompt )
Step 2) cd /mnt/sysimage
Step 3) grub-install /dev/***

you will need to change the /dev/*** to the correct address
