cant install codecs

Am using Stanton Finleys installation site to try to get everything installed in FC5. His instructions follow along with results.

* Open the terminal. Type:

su

Hit enter. Type your root password. Hit enter.

* Type:

mkdir /usr/local/lib/codecs/

Hit enter.

* Type:

mkdir /usr/lib/win32

Hit enter.

* Type:

tar xvfj *.tar.bz2

root@localhost ~]# tar xvfj *.tar.bz2
tar: *.tar.bz2: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
[root@localhost ~]#

Any ideas of what went wrong ? File is in home directory.

You are in the root directory, in terminal type
Code:
cd /home/<your username here>
to go to your home directory where the file is. Try the steps again. Also /usr/lib/codecs would be the place you may want to put the codecs, xine reads from there as well.

Thanks alot b00st that worked. now for the next problem the next step he mentions I get bad results also

root@localhost dw5437]# rm *.tar.bz2
rm: remove regular file `all-20060501.tar.bz2'? y
[root@localhost dw5437]# cp ./all-20060611/* /usr/local/lib/codecs/
cp: cannot stat `./all-20060611/*': No such file or directory
[root@localhost dw5437]# chmod 755 /usr/local/lib/codecs/*
chmod: cannot access `/usr/local/lib/codecs/*': No such file or directory
[root@localhost dw5437]# mkdir /usr/local/lib/codecs/
mkdir: cannot create directory `/usr/local/lib/codecs/': File exists
[root@localhost dw5437]# exit
exit

Now what ? I feel like a newbie all over again.
