Still can't install FlashPlayer on Fedora Firefox

Ok...I worked on this for about six hours so far...Yum says it installs Flashplayer, but Firefox does not have it working....I think I am not getting it "installed" in the right place.
Firefox lives in the directory /home/ron/.mozilla
How do I get YUM to install into this directory, and be sure it gets there? I tried reading the syntax guide in YUM, but that just made my head explode.
More to the point, how, exactly, do I install FlashPlayer into Firefox in Fedora Core 5?
Please, no cryptic replies. They just cause me to burn more and more hours trying unsuccessfully to implement them.
I have wasted about twelve hours trying to get my Firefox in Fedora to play video and mp3 audio files. In RedHat 9, it worked easily. Fedora an IMPROVEMENT????
I am ready to migrate back to RedHat 9.....

Out of curiosity, why do you have firefox in your home folder? Or is that referring to your user configuration for it? Did you install it manually?

Try this: http://www.fedorafaq.org/#flash

If that doesn't work, let us know and we'll see what else can be done.

I recently installed the Flash plug-in ( using yum from the Mozilla repository ) and it installed in /usr/lib/firefox[version}/plugins. Take a look and see if it's there, if so type ' aboutlugins' in the title bar of Firefox and see if Firefox recognises it's presence. If it isn't there take a look at the Stanton Finley how-to on FC5, which covers installing Flash. The repository version of Flash isn't the absolute latest, i believe it may not work on some sites, and on others you'll be prompted to update. Hope this isn't going over old ground for you.

That's where I found it. I did not put it there intentionally. I think Fedora set it up there when I installed Fedora Core.

It's not there. I did everything that site said. and it did not work.
I agree....none of the FlashPlayer sites I have been to have worked...and I have tried this about seven different ways, on many different sites, using several different methods....I am about to give up.

Flash player installed in Firefox...

I don't know about y'all, but I was just surfing google news with Firefox, and ended up at Reuters News Service. There was a link to a video about the delays in Airbus deliveries, so I clicked on it. The page stated, that I needed the Flash plugin, so I clicked the link, and would you believe it...the Flash player plugin installed

I am using FC6Test3, with the latest updates, and was running as a regular user ( not as root ). So, this to me is a milestone, unless I am missing something. The story is getting more and more interesting.

Don't you just love it.

nice, just got done playing the game, LOL...just one click with mouse and voila, Flash for the family.

This is the site, but I think it is more about the Fedora version, rather than the link to the plugin, unless Adobe created something new.

Back to RedHat

Well, after wasting about fifteen hours, I have given up. I have decided it is ridiculously difficult to install FlashPlayer in Fedora, despite trying everything suggested, and much much more. Can't get any MP3 files to play, either.
Fifteen hours, (two days work) means, to me, that the Fedora distribution is not ready for prime time. It's cute, but basically, for me, sucks.
I am running RedHat again, at least there, I have Flashplayer installed on Mozilla, and I can play audio fiiles from web pages.
Why Fedora has given me such a hassle is a mystery to me. I might try Fedora in six months or so.
In my old RedHat, all I need to figure out is how to print to my Windows network...That has only consumed, (so far), twenty hours of my life.
Windows XP looks better at times like this.

Sorry to read that, but I sense frustration on your part, and maybe a bit to much expectation. Don't give up...I usually get by without Flash. This was a surprise for me, as I have often tried to install flash just from within Firefox, and now it has finally happened...a nice little present. Mind you, as I wrote in the previous post above, this is the Fedora Core 6 Test 3 version, a default install with all updates and no tweaking...so take heart.

Well, that sounds good. I have two computers here for Linux, and it is merely a matter of switching keyboard, monitor, etc back and forth...Maybe I will download a Core 6 Fedora and play with that...Yes. You do sense frustration. but I do like Linux. I just got a bit burned out on trying to get this one thing done...
Fedora looks good...but so does this old RedHat 9. It's all good. I just don't have infinite patience.

Maybe this will fix it. Do this as root "mkdir -p /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fs/" and "ln -s /etc/X11/fs/config /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fs/config". Log out and login again and see if flash works in firefox.

Am I missing something?

I went to www.adobe.com downloaded the flash player 7 and copied two files "flasplayer.xpt" and "libflashplayer.so" into my usr/lib/firefox/plugins folder like the readme said. I know it doesn't work completely on some sites (espn.com for one) but I just figured that was because you can only get 7 which is the older version, because it has worked on other sites...
