what am I doing wrong

Trying to configure a server using this link
Network_Configuration
When it comes to,
# ifconfig eth1 .. I get, bash: ifconfig: command not found.
I've also tried: # ifcfg . and get the same result

This is a Fedora core 5 specific HowTo so I thought the commands used would work. I've tried as root and user and get the same result. Please what am I doing wrong?

You may need to preface the command with /sbin/ as in
/sbin/ifconfig
There is a fix if this is the problem - to do with paths, but I'm not the one to answer that. I'm sure someone else will be able to help with that. But in the short-term try adding the /sbin/

When you want to su to root, do this:
Code:
su -
The hyphen after su will cause you to obtain root's path, which contains /sbin by default.

To get the path work working, add this to .bash_profile file "export PATH=$PATH:/sbin".
To edit your .bash_profile file, open a terminal and type vi .bash_profile and add the mentioned line.

Thanks jimmy20013, I have Suse 10.1 on one machine Kubuntu on another and two with Fedora 5, so having all root paths working the same way simplifies things.......
