boot hangs after fstab, shutdown hangs too (FC6 only)

I was holding off posting this...but I've run out of ideas and couldn't find anything in the forum addressing this...

Boot-up hangs after displaying the "Enabling /etc/fstab swaps". If I just leave it (sometimes 5mins, other times >15mins) it comes up and presents the logon prompt. Normally I give-up before that. Disk is busy for aboput 15secs, then almost no disk activity.

Occurs on *2630.fc6 and 2647.fc6.

Shutdown also hangs for varing periods of time.

Core 5 does NOT have this problem.

Any ideas what I can check to see what is hanging the boot-up?

Justin

Yes, in fact the same thing happened today on the FC6 updates.
But it may be a different probelm, sam e symtom.

1. When you get the grub line on your boot up screen for fc6, press e for edit.
select the kerenl line - the long one that goes oof the screen.
press e to edit that line. (It's a one time edit, not permenent.)
arrow key to the end of the line.
delete the rghx quit by backspacing.
press enter
press b to boot

2. when you see udev on the sceen press i
it should ask you for Y or N to start each process.
Say y and see which one hangs.

3. reboot again doing the same thing and say N to that process.

and so forth,

SJ

Everything seemed to be working OK, except the slow startup...
