hdparm -t /dev/hda isn't working

when i try hdparm -t /dev/hda (as root) the system hangs.
after a few minutes it says:

it only happens with udma3-5 (1 and 2 are working fine)

As root run the following to see what your drive is capable of:


hdparm -I /dev/hda1
