Post Authentication for LAN connection

Hi friends

With your great initial help I have my FC5 up and running except few hiccups regarding internet.

I conect to the net via an onboard 10/100kbps LAN Card which requires authentication while connecting. Now I have the network card properly configured with all the IP Adress, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway input manually.
But now theproblem is I need to setup an authentication which my ISP requires. My ISP does not provide any Linux support so I guess I need to do it myself with help from you.
So please help.

thank you in advance.

Well its a PPPOE connection which connects via onboard LAN but I need to Authenticate while connecting using the password and Username provided by them.

I have enclosed a screenshot for your reference.

Thank you very much Seve for answering my distress call.

If you are running SBC/ATT, the username is xxxname@sbcglogal.net and password is your log on password.

SBC support is here: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/ilec,am~days=365 or look here
http://www.dslreports.com/forums/9 for your ISP.

Sorry not really sure about this.
I'm in India. My service provider is BSNL. I connect through LAN via a ADSL modem.

You better explain bit better. My connection:
SBC modem
Linksys Wireless router
Linux machine

Router connects to DSL modem so I don't have run PPPOE. I use PPPOE when I connect directlty to DSL modem without going through the router.

So how is your network setup?

Well I connect through PPPoE and the modem or router is ADSL one connected directly to my LAN port. So I have to go through the process as in the screenshot to connect.
The modem is HUAWEI Quidway WA1003A model.
Thank you

I hope that you have your user name and password for your ISP.

I don't know which desktop that you have so under KDE:

Applications
Add/Remove Software
Serach
"PPPOE" no quotes
you get rp-pppoe.
install

look in system-config-network ("networking" under gnome menu) there you can add a internet connect, via the adsl option (If i remember) that will setup a ppoe connection for you..

I downloaded this but it did not install. Honestly I'm completely new so I also have no clear cut idea about the process of installation.

Some help will be highly appreciated.

Thank you.

The file comes in a tarball- think of a zip file.
Open Computer on desktop
file the rp-pppoe.tar.gz.
unarchive the file
find a file called readme
read it
opne a terminal window
find the folder that holds the un-achive re-pppoe files
then do "./go" - take the quotes away.

you will be ask a series of questions.
user name
interface - usually eth0
DNS numbers

pppoe comes as part of the fc5 install, there shouldnt be any need to install anything else, use yumex and search for "adsl", the network manager app allows creatiion of pppoe connections via its "ADSL" option under new connection..
