Configuring Drives In WINE

I am going to try to explain this in as much detail as I can. I am not that good at explaining things, and, am VERY new to Fedora, so, if I leave anything out, please ask.

I just recently installed WINE using the "yum install wine" command, and, it seems that everything went well (As far as I know).

So, I tested it out with a few games , and, it works with some, but, not with others. That is to be expected , so, I am not really worried.

Since I was convinced that I have a working WINE install, I wanted to try to install Links Golf 2003. This is where the trouble starts.

It is 3 CD's. I put in the first CD. All goes well. i choose my setup options, click on continue, and the installation begins. After the install hits about 38%, it prompts me for CD 2 (Insert Disc 2 In Drive 'Z' and Click ok to continue....I found it weird that it is requesting the CD in drive "Z").

Well, it wont let me hit eject on the CD tray...so, I go to my computer and eject it from there....still not a problem..but, when I put CD 2 in, I keep hitting OK to continue, but, the installation will go no further). It keeps asking me for DISC 2 even though it is in the drive.

I tried poking around in some of the settings in WINE for the drives, but, still with no luck. Is there a certain way that I have to have WINE drives configured?

So, after all of this, I restart the computer and figured I would start all over again. Now, when I put CD 1 in, it starts the install, but, only for about a minute. Then it keeps telling me to Insert CD 1. I have CD 1 in the tray and keep hitting OK, but, it keeps asking for CD 1. Obviously, there is some type of drive configration I am missing here,

If someone can help me out with this, it would be great.

Gary

ok..I figured this out by myself.

It seems that, rather than insert CD2, I actually created a folder on the deksopt and pointed WINE to it as the CDrom drive. It installed, but, wont work. So, I am going to assume that it just wont work under wine.

So, on to my next wine problem. I have a game installed, seems to run smooth, but, the sound is very distorted. Kind of like it is turned up WAY too loud, but, I am checking the audio slider, and, it is set to a comfortable level.

I tried every combination possible under WINE, but, no matter what i do, it will not decrease this distortion. I tried using diff sound drivers under WINE, but, diff drivers work fine until the game starts, then the sound cuts out (Hoyle Board games 2007) totaly. So, basically, I really think I have the best driver selected for my System (ALSA)

Why is it that when I try to configure something by clicking on the Device Manager in WINE, it gives me the control panel has not been implimented yet?

Alot of options I try to hit, it gives me that not been implimented yet error? (Regedit Also)

On top of the Audio Driver Selection panel in WINE, it reads. "Configure A Drive by Right Clicking On It". When I do this, the only thing that comes up is the name of the driver and 1 option to click ok. nothing else. Deffinitely no configuration options there.

Once again, Am I missing something ?
