Fedora 2 wont boot with new kernel: VFS: Cannot open root device

Fedora 2 wont boot with new kernel:
VFS: Cannot open root device sda7 or unknown-block(0,0)
Please append correct "root=" option
Kernel Panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)

My grub.conf entry looks like:
title Fedora Core (2.6.17.7)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.17.7 ro root=/dev/sda7
initrd /initrd-2.6.17.7.img

I also tried with no luck
title Fedora Core (2.6.17.7)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.17.7 ro root=LABEL=/
initrd /initrd-2.6.17.7.img

Even though, this kernel boots ok:
title Fedora Core (2.6.10-1.771_FC2)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.10-1.771_FC2 ro root=LABEL=/
initrd /initrd-2.6.10-1.771_FC2.img

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

(Is this an updated kernel for FC2 or for a newer version?)
Anyways..........
Try changing this line
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.17.7 ro root=LABEL=/
initrd /initrd-2.6.17.7.img

to read

kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.17.7_FC2 ro root=LABEL=/
initrd /initrd-2.6.17.7.img
May not help. I've never compiled my own kernel, so I am not 100% sure if it is necessary to have the "_FC2" part added. Your post also reads
"VFS: Cannot open root device sda7 or unknown-block(0,0)"
Is SDA7 the / partition for the other kernel?
Do you have a /boot partition? If so then all your boot options will be relative to that particular partition. If not, then get into your FC2 and, with root privileges, use fdisk to check that sda7 is bootable.
Hope this doesn't confuse you as much as it did me.....LOL
Just kidding..
hope this helps.
Bill
