Need Fedora compatible "tip" or similar modem dialer

I need a Linux/Fedora version of the BSD /usr/bin/tip program or a similar command line program that will dial a remote computer. The only source code I can find for 'tip' is for BSD, and won't compile on FC4.

(minicom won't work, since I want to control the session from an expect script, and I don't want to the complication of a screen oriented program.)
