FC5 unstable?

I am not sure whether it's just me or something else because I'm constantly seeing both my FC5 installs (desktop and laptop) lock up randomly and having to force it to turn off to restart. I don't understand why, just a couple weeks ago it was solid, a couple updates later, it's been unstable.

Is there a way to track where the problem exist?

I had that until I got a new computer,- however in my case new ram meant having to get a new mobo...try running: memtest and see if it shows badram anywhere..I'm guessing thats what is going on. Updtae could have messed up something yes, but try memtest anyway ; )

good luck..

cheers

With all the record heat, do you think that your 'puters locations are involved? I haven't noticed any lockups with mine, but the temps up here are a bit cooler.

If you mix/match yum repositories, you will have problems, that's for sure. Make sure that that's not what you did. Oh BTW, doesn't anyone think that Fedora could use something like a System Restore tool for n00bs (Win XP has it and I've known it to be a very easy crutch sometimes)?

There is a 'restore' for yum or rpm - (here's what I copied down - haven't needed it yet):

If/when you want to rollback to a previous state, perform an rpm update with the --rollback option followed by a date/time specification. Some examples: rpm -Uhv --rollback '9:00 am', rpm -Uhv --rollback '4 hours ago', rpm -Uhv --rollback 'december 25'.

Edit: Now that I want to find some references to this - don't know where I got it from and it SEEMS to me that I had to modify yum or rpm ahead of time to allow this to function. Anyone with better memory or resources, how about jumping in here? Edit yet again: Here's the transaction - "rpm --rebuilddb" http://www.rpm.org/max-rpm/ch-rpm-mi...-OTHER-OPTIONS

Thanks for the input,no im not dumb enough to mix repos. I have air conditioning so that's not a problem, memtest ill try, but both pc's having the same problem (starting around the same time), i doubt it's that. I'll look into restore as well. Thanks a lot guys.
