terminal window and vmware issue

Hi,

I installed vmware but I do not see any icon where I can start vmware with.
So I need to start it with the command line.

Now when I start the terminal window and start vmware the terminal winow stays in use for vmware.

I don't want this... i'ts bothering me that I need an extra terminal window open for vmware.

when I close this terminal window vmware is also closed.
How can I solve this?

Thanks,

In 6 easy steps:

1. Right click on your desktop and select Create Launcher... from the context menu.

2. In the Basic tab fill in the Name you want to appear on your shortcut (VMware)

3. Generic name and Comment are optional.

4. Type the command you invoke on the command line in the command box (it is best practice to use the full pathname, i.e. /usr/bin/vmware)

5. Select an icon of your choosing by clicking on the No Icon button and selecting an icon from the list presented.

6. Click on OK

You will now have a new icon on your desktop created with the parameters you just speicified. Double-click on the icon and away you go!

You will still need to invoke vmware-config.pl from the command line when you install a new kernel. There's no way around this, it's just how VMware works.

Just append an ampersand ("&") after the command you're using to run it.

For instance, instead of:
Quote:
# vmware
Use:
Quote:
# vmware &
That frees up the terminal and then you can close it, and VMWare will remain running. But you're definitely better off making a new launcher for it... although honestly, you shouldn't have to. When I installed it, several new launchers were automatically added to my Applications menu under System Tools: VMWare Player and VMWare Workstation.

vmware will still close when the terminal window is closed. You need to start vmware like this from the command line:
Code:
nohup vmware &
Then the terminal can be closed without affecting vmware.

Also vmware-config.pl will automatically install an entry on your applications menu under system tools. When you run vmware-config.pl it will ask for the location of the desktop menu entry files. This location should be: [/usr/share/applications].
