FC5 - ATI Mobility Radeon Driver

Computer is a brand new Gateway M465E laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon X1400

Kernel: 2.6.17-1.2157_FC5smp with all current updates for my install

1. downloaded the driver from ATI - 8.26.18
2. from a terminal window: sh ./ati-driver-installer-8.26.18-x86.run
3. selected: Install Driver 8.26.18 on X.Org 7.0.x
4. selected: automatic
5. from a terminal window: aticonfig --initial

All I get is a blank screen.

Maybe you're having the same problem as me.

To get X working again, try switching to tty1 (Ctrl+Alt+F1) login as root and use vi to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and change...
Code:
        Driver "fglrx"
to..
Code:
        Driver "radeon"
and reboot.
If you can't switch to terminal have a look HERE to see how to boot straight into runlevel 3

If you've used the ATI installer you can uninstall the driver by running as root
Code:
/usr/share/fglrx/fglrx-uninstall.sh
If you used the livna ATI driver you can simply disable it by running
Code:
ati-fglrx-config-display disable

Once the ATI driver is installed how do I changed the display inforamtion: monitor type, resolution, refresh rate,...

The only thing I see is: fireglcontrolpanel

None of these are controlled here.

I tried system-config-display but it will not run now.

I beleive the command you are looking for is /usr/sbin/ati-fglrx-config-display

let me know if that works for you.

The only options for ati-fglrx-config-display are enable or disable. In the post by vinbob it states that this is for the ATI livna driver.

I am sorry - I had forgotten that - if you use aticonfig you set up most everything you need - just be careful that you are modify the correct xorg.conf file. if you just type aticonfig by itself it will give you a list of options. you have to log off and log on again for the changes to take effect - not quite windoze like.
