Gnome Terminal Panel Applet?

Does anyone know if there is a panel applet that creates a button which, when clicked, shows a dropdown version of the Gnome Terminal? I'd like to keep the terminal out of the way while I'm doing updates, but still be able to access it from the panel.

And no, I don't want to put it in another workspace.

If there isn't, would anyone be interested in one? I might try and make it, if I can figure out how. lol

Right click panel, add a Command Line (Mini-Commander).

Yeah... I know about that applet. But it doesn't execute bash commands. What I want is a button that shows a titlebar-less Gnome Terminal that I can type it and then click the button again and hide it. I dunno why, really... it would just be cool.

Awhile ago I tried stepping through a howto for a transparent "on-background" terminal that didn't take up any space on the panel.

Something like this might be a start:

Tilda could be just the thing, set your preferences (applications>>accessories>>tilda) then show and hide with f1 key (defaut)

yum install tilda

Re: Gnome Terminal Panel Applet?

Okay, so I've been playing with guake and its rough KDE equivalent yakuake, and all I can say is: where have these been all my life!? Much more useful than a transparent terminal that sits on the desktop.
