Wireless NIC - Default Timeout

I'd like to be able to set my wireless card to start automatically on start-up instead of me activating it manually.

However, when I turn autostart on through network manager, if the card isn't present (pcmcia) on boot, the network/driverloader service has a set time for locating the hardware before deciding it's not there and moving on (currently around 3 minutes). Sometimes I don't have the card in if I'm using a wired connection.

Is there any way I can set networking up so that if it doesn't detect the card after say 15 seconds, it carries on booting?

I'm using Core 5, a Dell Latitude C840 and Linksys 54g pcmcia.
