selection of distros?

hi

ive got fc5 running recently. As im a beginner to linux, ive read and pple have recommend me to use suse linux 10.1 instead. Reasons are that it is more user friendly to newbies compared to fc5 in terms of gui as they are more similar to windows(is this true?).

but will still like to ask u pple on ur opinions on which is better for newbies to get started with?
prob some factors to consider:
1)ease of installation (ive not much prob installing dual boot with my winxp and fc5,but wondering if it works nicely for suse 10.1 too?)
2) user interface??
3) or any other factors that u think i should re-consider??

well, this is computer not religion - feel free to try yourself every distro out there
I started with suse, switched to mandrake (the distro that really converted me) and finally to redhat 9; now I use only FC on all of my PC.
I think that for a new user problems will be the same on every different distribution, and the learning curve is always steep. At the moment, setting up a PC "the way I want it" with FC takes me about an hour...
And remeber that we have this fantastic forum with its fantastic users as a resource

If you want something that just 'works' out of the box and is very similar to Windows, then I'd recommend PCLinuxOS. It's even pre-configured for Nvidia or ATI graphics and has excellent new user guides, plus it's aLive CD, Installation Disc and Partitioner all in one CD. Very user friendly, but like SuSE, you don't tend to learn a whole lot using it.

Fedora takes tweaking, poking through guides and even getting familiar with Command-Line, but you'll very quickly learn the basics of linux and how to make your system do what you need it to. However, SuSE 10.1 is an excellent distro, as is Ubuntu. Nothing wrong with giving them a test drive and seeing what one you prefer.
