Fedora core 5 KDE - installed Gnome anyway

I've recently moved from another distro to Fedora and during install, deselected all Gnome features and programs, opting instead for KDE. I now find when I run Package Updater or add remove programs it wants to update all the Gnome features I deselected at install.
EG: I deselected Totem at install but its there anyway along with gnome-desktop, gnome-icon-theme , gnome-media , gnome-panel, etc.
What I would like to know is how do I get rid of all the Gnome stuff safely. Just trying to uninstall Totem wants to take a whole lot of other packages with it, including

Is there something wrong with the package management programs or does this have something to do with Fedora core 5 dependencies. I've not come across another distro that installs Gnome as a dependency for KDE.

Well I only use KDE but some programs I have require Gnome packages to run. That's just how dependencies go. If you notice in your list there are some KDE packages that require totem also. Every OS can be different in the way their packages are setup.

Hello:
Gnome is the default AFIK and you should probably live with it during the install. As gtr255 said Gnome is very relative to the whole OS in one way or another.
You can always uninstall the Gnome desktop by using yum: yum groupremove "GNOME Desktop Environment" if you really need to remove it.
