I have same problem on Xseries 346 , Try this

1. install fedora5
2. use resuecd open it & vi /etc/inittab (change graphic mode to text mode )
ex. id:3:initdefault:
3. reboot
4. logon ; yum -y upgrade

Touch /var/log/syslog.all

add "*.debug /var/log/syslog.all" to the end of /etc/syslog.conf

And run the system at runlevel 3 like pawnjazz said earlier.

Hopefully it will crash in a way that gives a stack trace.

I am curious xseries 226 is having a similar problem as my Intelistation Z pro (6221-67u) as it is the little brother of a xseries 225 (8647).
