I have been trying to burn an ISO file with K3b and Gnomebaker but kept getting error codes. Below is the error message that I got from K3b. Any ideas on how to fix it?

That's not really an error (ie. it's not fatal) but a warning. The problem is
that k3b/cdrecord is trying to make a memory call that only root user
has authority for. If you don't like the warning, you could run k3b as
root user and do your burn or don't burn at such a high speed.
Code:
su -
k3b

Bogey - you need to seriously update your existing install. This memory problem with K3B was result of a kernel upgrade from way back in the day. It's long since been fixed.

Hey, that worked. Thanks

You know, in that past I did not have to be root to burn an ISO. Could the software updates have caused this change?

I was just reaching back to a time where I had that warning and got
past it by just running k3b as root. Good to see it's been fixed so
general users don't have that issue. I don't burn disks much so
I didn't see the situation had changed.

if you want the current package version number for k3b, I think it's
k3b-0.12.15-0.FC5.1

Mark

I am a little confused by how I have an older version. I have cable internet and I do a software update everyday using the software updater, have been using Fedora for a couple of months. Doesn't the software updater update all of the applications (e.g., K3b)? Is there something else that I am supposed to do to update my programs? Also, I could not burn the ISO with Gnomebaker, so it not just a K3b problem. Since I starting using FC5, I have noticed that the kernel has been updated at least 3 times. The updated kernels are added to Grub. When I reboot I am selecting the latest kernel. Is my problem related to the kernel updates?
