FC5 Gnome taskbar button sizing

I've found that there is a way to make app switching buttons uniform size under Ubuntu and was wondering if there was a similar solution under FC5. The Ubuntu fix for this extremely irritating visual issue is found in a menu that doesn't appear to exist in my version of Gnome, which is accessed by right-clicking between taskbar buttons. If I try this, I get the window menu for the app to the right or the left. Please advise.

No need to get that fancy.

By comparison, this is how they sometimes arrange themselves which is what I want them to look like all the time:

And yes, I am going for a Windows look-and-feel since I just switched from XP Pro.

Actually, I think someone mentioned that this was a bug.. but I am not sure, anyways, its pure cosmetics, and I have learned to live with it.. and I don't think about it anymore

Can I get it back once I've removed it? And can I place everything to have basically the same visual layout with the panel that sizes my buttons correctly? It almost doesn't matter, since I am very close to switching back to Windows because pretty much every app replacement or Wine install I have tried has failed miserably...

I was experiencing the same issue. I think I found a way to make the different tasks smaller on the taskbar, but can’t remember how. (Not much help I know) Eventually, I went back to the large style, and have also become used to this setting.

Don't just give up on Linux t045tygh05t! Linux can be very challenging at first but before you know it, you'll probably get hooked! If you are having problems installing software, configuring the desktop, etc. just ask in this forum. There are some very helpful people here that are willing to help! I know this, because I am also new to the Linux world, but I have recently become an advocate.

As far as wine is concerned, well, I have not tried to run any Windows apps on Fedora so I can't offer much help. I find myself looking for comparable Linux apps instead, i.e. OpenOffice, gIMP, etc.

I'm not at my home FC5 box at the moment, or else I'd try to help you out with the window sizing thing. For now, take the opportunity to learn KDE as I know the taskbar windows are smaller.

Good Luck!

Now that I'm home I have been able to mess around with some of the settings for the task bar. Unfortunately I am not able to make it look exactly how you'd like. Just for fun you may want to adjust your Window List Preferences. Right click on the separator near the desktop icon on the task bar (if you have the default setup it should be near the left corner). Then click on the size tab and make adjustments from there. For my 17" monitor, I have it set for Min=50, Max=800.

I know that this is not the solution but it's my 2 cents.

I appreciate the input, and I'll definitely keep it in mind, but I had to switch back to Windows because I couldn't get a few essentials running under Wine.
