Trying to fix DVD causes "retrieving update information" hangs

Hi.

FC5 kde, problem with add/remove software application.
I was trying to get DVD playback working. Not sure of the easiest way so I thought I'd try installing vlc.
the 'Add Remove Software' search didnt mention it so I looked at the vlc website which directed me to freshrpms.net where I was told (by Matthias Saou) "The easiest way to install freshrpms.net packages is to click here from within firefox, choose to open with Install Software (the default) then go to Add/Remove Software from the main menu, where new applications will be available in the list."

Well I did that and it didnt work. Since then I cant open " add/remove software" as I get an error "Unable to retrieve software information" after it hangs for a few minutes.

I have tried to
su -
rpm --rebuilddb

but it didnt seem to help. Installing yumex obviously wont work either. I get:
yum install yumex
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Setting up Install Process
Setting up repositories
core [1/4]
updates [2/4]
freshrpms [3/4]
Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: freshrpms
Error: Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: freshrpms

I'd like some help to fix " add/remove software" and to get DVD playback working (I have tried Helix and totem without success on commercial DVD's though I can play AVI files on DVD's no problems).

Looks as if you may have a broken download of the freshrpms.repo file.
Look in directory /etc/yum.repos.d and remove that file if it exists.

Thank you. rm yum.repos.d seems to have fixed "add remove software". I'll try to get dvd's playing now.
