Unhappy !Newbie!Internet connection problem with FC1

I AM A Newbie.I have FC1.I have configured modem(DAX)and has setup one ppp connection(i have dial up modem connection isn't it the right thing to do then?).When I click ACTIVATE button another window appears having message meaning to wait appears as usual.But after a long time of some 5-10 minutes the connection appears to be activated but I can't access any external sites and my phone also have dial tone while the system says connection is activated.pls reply me.
