Samba - Printer not showing up BUT folders do?
Hello!
Right now I am running Fedora Core 5 with Samba installed. I have configured the Printer so that it could be shared on my network but I can't find the printer on the server. I can find the server no problem and the folder that I am also sharing on the server but I can't see the printer. The box that I am using to try to find the server is an XP-pro box.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Peace out!
Adam

May be a silly question but do you have printer sharing turned on?

Is the printer hooked up to a linux box as a local printer or a windows box?

The printer is hooked up to the linux box as a local printer. I want to share it over a lan with my windows box. Thanks! They are both connected by a simple linksys router and cat 5 cables.
Thanks!

Again, maybe another silly question, but have you used the add new printer wizard on the windows box to set up the printer from windows?

Yes. The printer works when it is attached via the USB cable on both machines. It doesn't work when you atempt to connect it using a LAN. Thanks again! No question is silly!

The printer is attached to the linux box via USB cable and set up as a local printer. Next, on the windows box you need to open the add a printer wizard > choose add a networked printer > browse for a printer or enter the server info to find it. The wizard will then load the drivers from the samba server and you should be good to go.

Nope. I have tried that many a time. Still doesn't work. I can access the server via vnc but when I try to locate using Window's explorer or the printer finder it doesn't find it. Any more idea's?
Thanks for your help.

Another option is to connect the printer to the windows box and reverse the process. See this for help on using that option.

note: change the "redhat-config lines to system config"
i have mine running this way and it works great.
good luck
