Dual Boot on Laptop (Acer TravelMate 4150)

Hi Every body.
I am a newbie, so go slow pl.
I use Win XP Pro (SP2) in my laptop (Acer TravelMate 4150: Pentium M 1.5GHz, 598 MHz, 256 MB RAM 60 GB HDD), which has 3 drives. Now I want to have dual boot with FC5. I tried to see the threads on this issue and being new, I understand it is not easy a job with Win XP. I must avoid any data loss and therefore seek suggestions from you all. Many have reported that installing GRUB on MBR has created problems and some of them have reported that both Win and Linux had been inaccessible 2 them. Keeping these in view, what would be the best possible way to go about it? Pl help.
Thanks in advance.

Hey there,

I dual-boot on most of my machines.... The one probably closest to your config being an Acer TravelMate 2313LCi.

You've read correct... Aside from an old install I did with RedHat 9 back in the day, I've never gotten GRUB to play nice with Windows XP natively. Instead, I install the bootloader in the first sector of the partition. And use BootPart to access from Windows XP's bootloader. (boot.ini)

There's a great set of instructions for BootPart, as well as download links: Here.

Peace,

Hi,

Thanks for Lotos's reply.
I have used BootPart and loaded GRUB in the first sector of the" /boot" partition. It is working fine. I have also taken help of Dr. Al Bento's article(http://home.ubalt.edu/abento/linux/r...ualbootNT.html).
