Hello!
I tried to search from forums this issue but couldn't find answer, I've also googled this problem a lot
and ppl is asking solution for this problem but there's no exact explanation or solution.
I have Asus P4P800-E deluxe motherboard, 3Ghz/800/1M P4 processor and 3 Gigs of RAM
So, my problem is that when all 3x 1G DDR sticks are plugged in, my system loss its performance
totally. Booting FC takes about 35mins. I've tested this on FC4 and FC5.
All seems to be a problem of handling memory, if I take out 2Gigs then system works fine without
slowing down. So I can use only 1Gigs of memory.
I have other asus motherboard with AMD processor and I have same amount of memory (3Gigs)
without any problems.
I don't think that any kind of HIGHMEM support is not problem because my system was stable with
3gigs on different motherboard and I need no recompile kernel or do any ugly hacks to get it work.
I have also Windows XP (for gaming only) installed and it works fine with 3gigs of RAM so I think
there's something wrong in kernel?
I also tried to install new FC5 distro on SATA harddisk, everything else goes fine with 3gigs of ram but
install will take more than 10 hours to complete all operations are really slow. So I took those 2 gigs out and
then installation went about in 25 - 30 minutes (with 1gigs).
Does anyone else have this problem and possibly solution ? Now I have fully working FC5 but
I don't wanna see those 2 x 1Gigs DDR sticks on my desk, I want to put them back but first
I must get some kind of solution so I don't need to boot my machine about 35mins if there's
3gigs of RAM

Markus
