Fedora Core 5 DHCP problem

hi,

i have a problem connecting to internet thrue DHCP, i have set to obtain ip and dns automaticly from ISP and its not working in winddows xp works with no problems any idea?

go to Menu,
System, Administator, Network
enter your root password

You will see the nic information. (if it is not there then the device was not recognised)
If it is there,
does it say active?

double-click on the etho line. A detailed pop will show the settings.

make sure all the settings are correct - like active device when computer starts.

If this does not work, make sure the dhcpclient service is running.

All things being normal it should work.

i did all that but still doesent work, it work before when i have ADSL over PPPoe now i have VDSL and it is DHCP.

could it be, that you're dealing with the wrong interface....

as far as i know, there is a new interfase setup, when using PPPoE....called ppp0 or so....
what gives you the output of 'ifconfig' as root? (beside of the lo stuff...this is your loopback interface).

do you have an eth0 or ppp0 interface setup?

I have exactly the same situation - Win connects and Fedora does not. I have an eth0 and all looks OK, though is not.
btw:, how do I check if the dhcpclient service is running?

there's not a service like the other dealing with the dhcpclient thing....you can use the dhclient tool to manually remove/update a dhcp-lease...(remove with dhclient -r [dev], then renew with dhclient [dev]).
