Change screen resolution

I am trying to change the resolution of my screen currently 1920x1440, billions of colors, on a Fedora Core 1, XFree.4.3,
to 800x600 to be able to watch .avi files on my TV screen and plug my thinkpad onto a videoprojector.

I tried several times by changing the convenient "modes" lines in /etc/X11/XF86Config but to no avail.

The KDE pretends to be in 800x600 mode but the it isn't true by evidence.

Any hint ?

This thread helped me change my resolution to 1680x1050, and i would imagine that it would apply to 1920x1440.

good luck.

Wow. What graphics hardware are you using? Mine only goes up to millions.

You might try Main Menu > System Settings > Display (redhat-config-xfree86), although it has limitations.
