totem 1.41 with a wrong aspect ratio

hi
i got a wrong aspect ratio no matter i choose auto ,square , 4/3 or 16/9
generally the screen is thinner
while i try to type "mplayer file" in console , it is okay
i lose my gmplayer now and i got only totem
how can i use mplayer with a graphic interface ?
or how can i fix the totem?
my system is FC5 , latest update using yum
monitor resolution is 1024x768 , and i installed gstreamer 0.10.8
i tried xvimagesink pixel-aspect-ratio=4/3 in gstreamer-properties, but it didnt help
thanks a lot :-)

okay, since you asked again....

To find out what the video's actual aspect ratio is, play it from the command line with mplayer. Look for lines of output on the terminal like this:

Code:
Movie-Aspect is 1.78:1 - prescaling to correct movie aspect.
VO: [xv] 720x576 => 1024x576 Planar YV12
Your numbers will be different, but post them so we can see what the aspect ratio is.

Sometimes, video players like xine or mplayer don't handle the aspect ratio for whatever reason. It could be that whoever made the video file didn't put the aspect ratio in the file properly or some other reason.

mplayer is usually pretty good at "stretching" the video to the correct aspect ratio. xine is usually good also, but perhaps not quite as consistently good in my experience.

From your message it looks like you are using totem with the gstreamer backend. I use totem with the xine engine.
