Can't update using YUM w/SonicWall

I have been following Stanton Finley's FC5 Installation notes regarding Yum and I get to the actual update part, but I keep getting header errors (header is not complete) and keeps trying to download the same thing over and over, from various different repos. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

(here is my output):

Try 'yum clean all' and see if the headers correct.

Nothing much on the Forum, but if you google: https://lists.dulug.duke.edu/piperma...ly/006996.html
There's a few other responses but nothing much in the 'help' category.

That thread is referring mainly to proxy problems, which I do not use. But, I tried the trace anyways and here is what I got:

echo -e "TRACE / HTTP/1.1\nHOST:mirror.eas.muohio.edu\n\n" | nc mirror.eas.muohio.edu 80
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date: Thu, 08 Jun 2006 15:42:31 GMT
Server: Apache/2.0.49 (Linux/SuSE)
Transfer-Encoding: chunked
Content-Type: message/http

31
TRACE / HTTP/1.1
HOST: mirror.eas.muohio.edu

0

I am pretty sure this means everything is OK ???

It would seem so. Why not open a bugzilla on this one? Doesn't seem to be a real 'fix' that I can find. Let's give it to the experts.

Actually, I just found a pretty good answer to this problem. I think it's my SonicWall (firewall / router) that may be blocking it. http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/...d=982&forum=27

So far I have found no evidence that this is a firewall issue, but I'm still checking into it. Maybe the Bugzilla submission is the way to go.

OK, I finally found the solution on SonicWall's web site. Although their solution is not very clear, the bottom line is to disable the Gateway AntiVirus and Anti Spyware. I tried to disable just the Gateway AV and it still did not work. Then I disabled the Anti-Spyware and that did the trick. Hopefully this will help everyone getting the "Header Not Complete" errors (assuming they are using a SonicWall with Enhanced Firmware).

Here is what SonicWall has on their site:

If you are running SonicWALL's Gateway AntiVirus, the following changes can be made to resolve this issue:
From the diag page, enable FTP 'REST' requests with Gateway AV
From the diag page, enable HTTP Byte-Range requests with Gateway AV

The SonicWALL GAV by default suppresses the use of the FTP 'REST' (restart) request to prevent the sectional retrieval and reassembly of potentially malicious content. This is done by terminating the connection and thus preventing the user from receiving the malicious payload. By enabling this option you will override this setting.

The SonicWALL GAV by default suppresses the use of HTTP Byte-Range requests to prevent the sectional retrieval and reassembly of potentially malicious content. This is done by terminating the connection and thus preventing the user from receiving the malicious payload. By enabling this option you will override this setting.

If you need assistance with these settings, or this does not resolve your problem, please contact Technical Support.

Good call, Don! This was a sneaky one. I installed a TZ 170 a day ago, and then I enabled a new repo... I was getting this same error, and thought I had somehow messed up the repo config.

I disabled gateway AV and Spyware, and now it works perfectly again. Guess I don't really need those anyway, since only 1 of my machines runs Windows.

thanks, I have been dealing with this yum update issue for a few days till I came across this thread. In my situation I had to enter the ip of the linux box and exclude it from the Gateway AV, Network AV, and Antispyware. Had to leave them enabled as they protect the rest of the network. Finally a post that answered my prob! (Sonicwall 3060 Pro w/Gateway & Network AV, and Antispyware installed).
