Cannot access ProFTPD server

I have question regarding ProFTPD. I installed the program on my Fedora Core 4. The problem that I am facing right now is that, an access from outside can't be made. My FC4 server is 203.115.19x.xxx (I'm not in a NAT) and the FTP server can only be access by node(s) in the same range. When I tried to access with 203.115.23x.xxx, it won't allow.

What is the problem that I am facing here? Can somebody help?

How is your firewall configured?

Vic.

Actually firestarter and SELinux are both disabled... in another PC in the same 203.115.1xx.xxx network is also an FTP server (using vsftpd) and it can be accessed by nodes in 203.115.2xx.xx network.

Thanks in advance...

I'm not interested in firestarter, I'm interested in iptables.

Most FTP problems come down to the FTP server having a firewall that prohibits its operation.

...But that's on a different machine, so it isn't affected by the firewall on the one you're looking at...

But the setup is identical except the other one is using vsftpd and this one is using proftpd. Both are using Fedora Core 4. I will try to check the IPtables configurations.

Thanks

Well clearly something is different. And as you're the only one who can see what's going on with your machine, you have the simple choice of :-

- Supply the requested information to people who are trying to help you, or
- Not supply the info, and have to fix it yourself.

An enormous number of problems are fixed by checking that things are as they are supposed to be.

Would it really have been that hard to find this out when I asked you to?

Right, now that we know that - what does Ethereal give you when you try to connect?

Vic.

Hey I'm sorry for not giving you full information. I'm just a n00b and trying to learn things. I don't even know what IP tables are and just check the thing after you told me about it.

And FYI, I just figured out that it's my checkpoint firewall disabled the FTP access to this node. Thanks for helping anyway.. cheers.. it works now though..
