Burning the ISO images to CD

I've dowloaded ISO images of LINUX onto a PC running windowws XP, but I don't know how to burn these onto a CD in a format that my CD reader (on a second PC) will read. I want to load, install and run Linux on this second PC, which has windows 98 on it.
How do I do this?

I"m not a techy, but an appoications programmer who wants to do some development in PHP/MySQL, and move away from the Windows World.

I understand that I can't burn the ISO images onto a CD because that's no use for installing LINUX.

Any suggestions as to software to use to burn CD'sD? i.e. - software that you know for certain will burn the CD's in the correct format.

As far a a program *(free) that will do an excellent job, check out http://www.cdburnerxp.se/ It's changed a bit since I last used it (when I had Windows), but it never failed me. Should be easy to follow, but I'm confident there's a decent manual included.

cdrecord image.iso works fine for me, of course if you have more that 1 burner then you going to have to tell it which one to use. But if not keep it simple.
