Thanks for the link - it's a Thing of Beauty! One tip: DON'T have it scan your hard drive for pics. I'm still waiting for it to finish up loading every last .jpg & .gif, etc. etc on the whole drive and then I've got some deleting to do!

Edit: This program is awesome. Even 'remove from Picassa' is perfect - lets you click on a folder tree and delete what you want instantly. All done in a minute or two. And FAST - WOW, it's faster that I remembered on Windows.

I just downloaded it and its working great. Also faster then I expected, because I heard it was layered with Wine but I guess not. :-)

Well, looks like Google has removed it from their website. All I get are "Page not found" errors.

I suppose it's for the best anyway... I prefer Open-Source over closed-source. Would have nice to at least give it a test drive though.

Funny, clicking on the link does open it for me, although I heard that it's US only... others must use a proxy : http://groups.google.com/group/Googl...0c6c4cf17944a5

Yep, that works... Interesting that Google targets their beta releases so geographically.

One of these days I'll install it and give it a try... just to see what all the hype is about

Will Picasa be made available through Extras?

Why is Google making this software and giving it away for free? What's in it for them?

Mat, no wine involved - at least I don't have Wine on my FC and it runs like a champ.

That's not likely since it is not open source. There are several free and open alternatives to Picasa. F-Spot is one of the more popular.

wine is built into the picasa software, check the release notes ...
I have DL and installed on FC4...works very well.
Picasa does alot more than any one image viewer/editor that I currently have installed...I think with picasa I can get rid of 2-3 other appz.

Oh, well that explains the Wine references. I guess I DO have Wine on my system now. Yes, I know that it was regarded as the best program of it's type and it was always free - missed it on FC, but digikam also does a decent job.
