web server fron scratch

Hello,

I have installed FC5 , i had a few problems with logging in this morning but with a little help from one or two of you i've got a working fileserver. thank you

My next problem is setting up a web server for our local intranet. All the files are written in html/php using a mysql database.

I'm not sure where to start or which services are already available to do this.

Could somone tell me

1) where should i put my web docs
2) is php already running on my system, and if not how do i start it
3) where shall i put my sql database
4) do i have apache or equivalent already running somewhere

I got reasonably good at sorting this sort of thing in windows , but ive finally been persuaded to change. Its a bit more difficult to learn, but im sure it will be worth it !

many thanks in anticipation

graham

Well heres an easy way to see if apache is installed. Try to start the service by typing this at the command line:
/etc/init.d/httpd start

If its installed you should see [OK] in green.

Now to see if PHP is installed and running the easiest way is to make a info.php file. Make a php file with the following code:

<?php phpinfo(); ?>

Yah a whole line lol... Now point a web broswer to that file. You should get a webpage to come up with allllll kinds of info about your php installation... If nothing comes up, well youll have to installl php. Read the how tos on how to do that!

Now when you say my sql database, did you mean my mysql database or your sql database. If its mysql, most databases are found in /var/lib/mysql if im not mistaken. Someone correct me if im wrong!

Your web docs should be in /var/www/html/ if its a standard apache install

Well hope that helps!
