EasyTag and Rhythm Box - tags not updating

I'm using Core 5, EasyTag, and Rhythm Box. Although I write a tag using EasyTag, some mp3 files in Rhythm Box are still showing "Unknown" for the genre. I can go back to EasyTag, write the tag with the proper genre, AGAIN, reload the library in Rhythm Box, and STILL the genre shows as "Unknown."

Any idea what's going on? I use 5's Software Updater on a routine basis, and all updates are in the system.

Thanks.

Hi Stephen,

I've had similar non-tag-updating issues with Rhythmbox (v0.9.4.1 in FC5). In the end, I cleared out the database and let Rhythmbox recreate it from scratch. Doesn't take long and seems to sort things out.

On my system, the database is an XML file in ~/.gnome2/rhythmbox called rhythmdb.xml. All I did was rename the file then restart Rhythmbox and let it chunter away for a few minutes until it was recreated. You can always have a look at the XML in gedit if you're interested.

HTH

Andy

Thanks Beaker01. Found the XML file, renamed it, reloaded RhythmBox, and still have 17 songs out of 308 that say Unknown for genre. I don't see anything strange about any of the files, and EasyTag shows the correct genre.
