how to configure serial modem

hi all. i would like to configure a serial modem but i dont know where to start. help is very much needed. thanks in advance.

i have successfully connected to the RAS using wvdial with PAP authentication.
its now connected but i still cant browse the internet via ppp.

logs taken from customized file /var/log/ppp.0.log

pppd 2.4.3 started by root ,uid 0
Using interface ppp0
Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS0
PAP authentication succeeded
local IP Address 192.168.18.24
remote IP Address 192.168.18.5

i dont know whats missing.
please help.
